In the US, barns are classic farm icons that most of you must be familiar with. They store farm tools and machinery, hay and feed, and shelter livestock. Since so many organic and perishable things are around a barn, it becomes essential to deal with pests that are attracted to it. But how can you do that? Let’s shed some light on it.
While walking around the barn, if you notice small droppings or nesting materials, get on an alert! Those might belong to rodents. If you notice any mud tube or damaged wood, that might be a termite job. And if you find any shredded scaling skin, get on high alert, as it might be a venomous snake. But how do we keep them away?
Start by sealing the entire barn with a waterproof sealant. If you find any cracks, gaps, or other small entry points, use caulking to close them promptly. Keep changing water to avoid making it an insect breeding ground. Have a proper drainage system. Do not forget to clean livestock waste, as it may get infested with bacteria. Opt for a steel barn without a truss to avoid birds resting and nesting on it.
You can keep most pests away by getting routine inspections and cleaning. Store feed in a closed, tight-lid container. These guidelines can help avoid most troubles. See the infographic for details.
